U.S. Coast Guard intercepts oil tanker bound for Cuba

The United States Coast Guard reported this Friday that it intercepted an oil tanker in the Caribbean Sea bound for Cuba. A country subjected to a brutal energy blockade by the Donald Trump administration.

On its X (formerly Twitter) account, the agency—one of the branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. Stated that it had “successfully concluded the interdiction of the Motor Vessel (M/V) Grace.”

According to the USCG statement, this followed “a coordinated international enforcement effort that confirmed” what they termed “the illicit trafficking of fuel to Cuba by the vessel.”

The Coast Guard added that the operation was carried out through coordinated actions. Between the governments of the United States and Mexico, which “prevented an unregulated fuel transfer in the Caribbean Sea.”

During his address on September 26th at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla denounced the U.S. government’s multidimensional aggression against Cuba.

“Since January 2026, it has intensified and become more cruel and dangerous with the establishment of an energy blockade. That, through intimidation and coercion, prohibits all countries from exporting fuel to Cuba. Also this amounts to a naval blockade, classified under international law as an act of war,” he stated.

Moreover the Foreign Minister emphasized that “the impact of such an ironclad and ruthless siege has a human face. The economic war is directed against the people. It falls upon the Cuban population as a whole. It claims lives, causes individual and collective pain, and generates anguish.”

“It is not ‘collateral damage’.” “It is a policy deliberately designed to strike Cuban families where it hurts most, hinder well-being, and wound the dignity of the people,” emphasized the head of the delegation to the UN meeting.
