Edilse Silva connects home run 200 to consummate super KO to the Roosters

When at 12:22 p.m., local time, on Tuesday, June 6, Edise Silva ‘s shot flew over the right field fence, in addition to representing home run number 200 for the tough left-handed slugger, other meanings signaled the Connection.

The two-run homer completed the super KO of the Cubs, 15×0, over the Gallos de Sancti Spiritus and made Edilse the 42nd Cuban baseball player to reach this figure in our national tournaments and the first to do so wearing the Holguin shirt.

Silva’s home run harvest, who curiously connected his first home run against Holguín at the Calixto García on 12/30/2002, is distributed as follows: 92 with Santiago de Cuba, 72 with Holguín, 12 with Ciego de Ávila, 8 with Villa Clara, 4 with Las Tunas and 2 with Cafetaleros.

Returning to the game, the people from Holguin took advantage of the lack of control of the rival pitchers who gave away 12 tickets, two of them intentional, two hits by pitches and two wild pitches, which allowed the same number of scores.

They also hit with opportunity, because with nine hits they pushed 12 scores, where Nelson Batista stood out with four RBIs (4-2 with a tubey), and two sent for the rubber, in addition to Edilse, Yordan Manduley and Annier Fonseca, all 3- 1.

Lefty Uberleydis Estevez (4-5) had an efficient start going 5 1/3 innings with just four singles allowed, three strikeouts and two walks. José Antonio Sánchez billed two outs and awarded a ticket.

The setback was to the record of Edgar Zulueta (1-1), a tall youth with shots over 90 miles who in the last national tournament in the category, in which he finished 6-2, showed spectacular numbers, such as 104 strikeouts (leader) of 187 batters faced, PCL (0.69), WHIP (0.59) and opposing AVE (080).

After this result, Holguín remains in ninth place in the standings with a balance of 31-31, five games from the top, occupied by Las Tunas (35-25) and Santiago de Cuba (37-27).

The Cubs now travel to Pinar del Río to face the Vegueros, from 8 to 12 at Capitán San Luis, and then they will move to Isla de la Juventud, where they will carry out the last sub-series from 14 to 17 at Cristóbal Labra.

Holguín has a game pending against the Leñadores de Las Tunas and two against the Cazadores de Artemisa, which would be played at the end of the official calendar at Calixto García.
