Two wins as visitors, against the Cafetaleros de Sagua de Tánamo, is a serious announcement by the Sultanes de Holguín of their intention of reaffirming the crown in the final of the XVVI Provincial Baseball Series.
Right-hander Jesús Quintán took over the box at José Abreu stadium and left the hosts with five hits and a solitary score, who made three errors, while his teammates scored six runs, with ten unhittable runs and failed once on defense. The setback went to Daniel Espinosa.
For the winners, Michel Álvarez, 3-2 and 3 IC, Edilse Silva, 3-2 and 1 IC, and Aníbal Vaillant, 5-2, were outstanding at bat.
In the second match, the applause went to right-hander José Miguel Rivas, who also pitched the entire game and allowed a solo hit, while the winners scored three runs with seven hits, two of them coming from Anibal Vaillant, in four offensive innings. The home squad made a couple of errors and had Orleydis Cuba as the loser.
The final, a best-of-three game, will continue next Wednesday 20 at the Feliú Leyva stadium in the city of Holguín where it is also scheduled to be a double game, seven innings, starting at 10:00 a.m.
Holguín team is seeking its tenth crown in these competitions and the representatives of the mountainous municipality of Sagua de Tanamo are fighting for their seventh throne, something they have not achieved since 1991.
The team that wins the title will represent the province in the Club Champions baseball tournament scheduled for 2024, from January 19 to February 12.
