The workers of Cristino Naranjo sugar mill, located in the municipality of Cacocum, have ratified their commitment to comply with the next sugar harvest, which will start next November 15 in this factory, with the commitment to producing more than 24 thousand tons of sugar for the rationed book.
In spite of the effects that have existed with fuel, electricity and lack of different goods, the mill has implemented an action plan, together with the commitment of the workers, for a more favorable situation.
Victor Hidalgo Moreno, head of maintenance of the factory, states that “currently the plant is at 85 percent of the repair and 76 percent ready, for November 17th in the comprehensive harvest exercise it is expected to be at 90 or more percent, which is the premise of the exercise”.

Ramón Aguilera Avila, general director of the sugar mill, points out that in order to meet the 24 thousand 643 tons of sugar agreed, it is expected to grind around 365 thousand tons of cane, “…this is the estimate with which we must do the harvest, and with the cane we have…”.
The levels of sugar cane planting have decreased alarmingly, however, Aguilera specifies that “today we are engaged in the planting of sugar cane, which has been affected by the lack of fertilizers, herbicides, fuel has failed at times, but we have a commitment to reach 50 percent of this year’s plan and we are ensuring the seed for the year 2024,” he said.

For this harvest, the company has 12 new harvesters distributed in 12 brigades, to which other 11 ones from Noris Urbano sugar mill will come, which will be transporting cane by rail from the Algodones cleaning center. The machinery to ensure the harvest is ready without setbacks, confirmed Guillermo Escalona Calzada, head of the mechanization and transport group.
In addition to the transportation by rail, there is a brigade of new technology trucks and the means of two cooperatives with 14 trucks, which will guarantee that the cane will be transported to the tipper.
Aguilera affirmed that “the fuel for the harvest is guaranteed, the management of AzCuba, together with the management of the country, are taking measures to ensure the fuel and not to affect the harvest, which has as fundamental objective to ensure the sugar for the domestic consumption of the country”.
Lack of energy will not be a problem either, since the plant has the potential to generate electricity. “We have 12 MW installed in the factory, of which we are actively using 9 MW, and we have a turbo generator for response. The mill in optimum technical condition is able to deliver 4 MW to the national grid, not constantly, but for a long time”, Hidalgo explained.

This sugar company has 911 workers, 401 of them work at the sugar mill in three 12-hour shifts. For their safety, the completion of the means of protection is expected, according to Libia Osorio Rodríguez, member of the provincial bureau of the sugar union.

Aguilera explained the variability of the harvest scheme divided in three stages that “due to the situation in Cuba with sugar, maybe after two or three days of starting the sugar mill we will start sugar production, that is not defined” …, however, he is convinced that … “we have no doubt that we will fulfill the commitment to start on the scheduled date”.
