The 17th Gibara International Film Festival, which is being held in this city in the Cuban province of Holguin, hosted this Thursday the Theoretical Forum “A gender perspective for the perspective of gender for the audiovisual and the arts”.
The meeting at the Casa de la Cultura served as a platform to debate about the challenges to be conquered in the visual arts regarding gender and its visibility, public policies and visibility, public policies and projects that are being developed in the graphic arts, film and theater.
The activity, which is part of the event, was attended by the coordinator of the Cartel the project CartelON of Cuban graphic arts, producer Yumey Besú, and Berta Carricarte, researcher and member of the jury of the Cuban Association of the Cuban Cinematographic Press Cuban Film Press Association (ACPC).
The panel, moderated by activist and musician Rochy Ameneiro, was also joined by actress Liliam Lam and Sergio Cabrera, representing the Palomas project.
Until August 5, when the event ends, gender issues will have a special presence, as they will transcend filmography and will also be addressed in exhibitions, plays and other activities.
This Friday at the Theoretical Forum there will be a debate on “Preservation of heritage and cultural values through film”.
According to the organizers, the festival will present at the closing gala the Honorary Lucia Award to Cuban actor, producer and filmmaker Jorge Perugorría, at the helm of the event from 2016 to 2022.
Perugorría, who from this edition becomes its Honorary President, was a key figure in the relaunching and revival of the festival, significantly since 2019, during the health crisis associated with the Covid-19 pandemic.
This award was conferred at the opening ceremony to actor Luis Alberto García and legendary Cuban film costumer Violetta Cooper, both with significant contributions to the cinematographic universe in the Caribbean nation.
Among the activities planned for this opportunity is a tribute to Cuban filmmaker and screenwriter Sara Gomez with the screening of the film De cierta manera and a selection of her works.
Under the direction of Sergio Benvenuto, the festival shows fidelity to the initial ideas of the late film director Humberto Solás, who paved the way for cinematographic creativity made with few resources and promoted a model of cultural animation and local development of a people.
