Holguin’s “Cubs” Receive Team Flag for the 65th National Baseball Series

The Holguin Cubs reaffirmed their goal of remaining among the top teams in Cuban baseball. During the 65th National Series at a flag presentation ceremony held in the city’s Major General Calixto García Plaza.

The team’s banner—carried on Tuesday by Luis Miguel Rodríguez Ricardo, a former Olympic silver medalist pitcher and a legend of Cuban baseball. It was received by Joel Queipo Ruíz, a member of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and the Party’s First Secretary in the province. He then handed the flag to veteran batter Lázaro Cedeño González.

Ernesto Torres Velázquez read the oath for the athletes and coaching staff. Highlighting their commitment to striving for victory with dedication and discipline in every game, with the aim of advancing to the final Eastern Zone.

The Cubs will make their debut on Sunday, October 4th, at the Major General Calixto García Stadium against the Granma Alazanes. It will subsequently host the Santiago de Cuba Avispas from October 9th to 12th.

Playing away, they will face the Guantanamo Indios from October 14th to 17th  at the Nguyen Van Troi Stadium in Guantanamo City. Before traveling to Bayamo to play a return series against the Granma team from October 19th to 22nd.

Furthermore the northeastern team’s schedule continues with home games against the Indios from October 24th to 27th. Followed by away games against the Avispas from October 29th to November 1st.

In November, the team will face the Tigres de Ciego Avila (Nov. 3–8, at José Ramón Cepero Stadium), the Gallos de Sancti Spiritus (Nov. 10–15) and the Leñadores de Las Tunas (Nov. 17–22)—both at home—and the Toros de Camagüey (Nov. 24–29, at Cándido González Stadium) to close out the qualifying stage.
