Gilberto García Acosta has dedicated a significant part of his life to radio broadcasting in Holguin. Today, with over three decades of commitment to the Holguin radio network. He is not only one of the most recognizable voices at the CMKO Radio Angulo station. But also one of the most talented and respected professionals in the province’s cultural sphere.
His versatility—as an announcer, scriptwriter, program director, music producer, and currently the Head of Programming at CMKO—reveals his understanding of radio. As an ongoing creative craft and a collective endeavor. His career is defined by discipline, responsibility, talent, and a deep passion for community radio. A medium that engages in dialogue with its listeners and recognizes them as essential participants.
He spent 16 years working at *La Voz del Níquel* (The Voice of Nickel). Also where he honed his professional skills and began to develop a unique style. Remaining attentive to the concerns and needs of listeners as well as to societal changes.
It was at that community station that *Proyecto 90* (Project 90) was born. A radio show that made his name known and revolutionized the format for youth programming through remarkable listener interaction, high audience ratings, and significant social impact. More than just a program, it became a gathering place for a generation. That found in radio a space to express themselves, share their concerns, and find a sense of identity.

Since then, his voice has become an integral part of the soundscape of Holguin province.
In 2006, he joined CMKO—the flagship station of the Holguin radio network—where he is one of the most popular voices. Moreover he has taken on various responsibilities. Demonstrating a creativity that extends far beyond the microphone. Reflecting on his 36-year radio career, Gilberto highlighted “Project 90,” “The Formula,” and “Free Admission” as the programs that have most shaped him—shows that left a unique mark on his professional development and his connection with the audience.
Recently, during the 20th-anniversary celebration of “Free Admission,” Gilberto emphasized the program’s role as the quintessential platform for musicians from Holguin. It has accompanied them through their careers, projects, dreams, and challenges. Witnessing their growth, transformation, and success in conquering new stages and winning public acclaim.
Gilberto is also a creative force behind late-night radio. He serves as the scriptwriter and music producer for “Bohemians,” a highly popular night-time program on station CMKO.
This creativity is matched by a constant drive for self-improvement. In 2020, he was voted the most popular broadcaster at Radio Angulo. An honor that reflects the bond he has built over the years with his listeners.
His work extends beyond the broadcast booth and studio. Within Holguin’s cultural scene, he led the Hermanos Saíz Association for several years. He also founded the RECREARTE company—affiliated with the TURARTE entertainment agency. Also with the Faustino Oramas Music and Entertainment Marketing Company. A project dedicated to fostering young artistic talent that celebrated its 15th anniversary this year.
He received institutional recognition on September 8th, 2023, during the national ceremony marking the 46th anniversary of the National Union of Cultural Workers, held in Holguin. There, he was awarded the Raúl Gómez García Medal, the highest honor bestowed by the organization upon individuals with over 20 years of artistic achievement.
