Codanza’s Imprint on Holguin’s Cultural Scene

Codanza maintains its presence on Holguin’s cultural scene with a season of premieres planned for September. Including the choreography “Quadrilateral”, in a context marked by the closure of the Eddy Suñol Theater. Due to the damage caused by Hurricane Melisa.

Vianki González Miranda, the group’s director and choreographer, told the Cuban News Agency that the collective has overcome the difficulties with creativity and dedication. Aiming to keep their artistic vision alive.

“With the city’s main cultural venue closed, we have reinvented ourselves to produce a show worthy of the group. Also to ensure that the Holguin public knows we are still active,” she stated.

The group’s work so far this year has included reviving repertoires. Teaching ballet classes, and welcoming new students.

Among recent highlights, González Miranda mentioned the highly acclaimed performances on International Dance Day and at the Romerías de Mayo festival. As well as the visit of Professor Erick Rivera from the University of Virginia. Also who choreographed the piece “Shades” with the dancers.

Quadrilateral, a piece with diverse themes and an open conception. It will be presented in a single performance, date yet to be determined. As part of Codanza’s 34th anniversary celebrations.

The performance will take place in Calixto García Park. A gesture that reaffirms the group’s commitment to taking to the streets and reaching community spaces.

Codanza hasn’t remained confined, waiting for theaters to reopen. But has embraced the streets and the community as its own, the director emphasized. Adding that the group has also strengthened its presence on social media to maintain interaction with the public.

The company, founded on September 29th, 1992, by dancer and choreographer Maricel Godoy. It aspires to continue expanding its horizons and maintaining its connection with its audience. While also projecting its work internationally.
