Cuba defeated Puerto Rico 3-0 and won third place in the NORCECA Women’s Continental Pre-Olympic Volleyball Qualifier. Being held in Santo Domingo on the road to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
The Cubans won with scores of 25-22, 25-18, and 25-21 in a match held at the Ricardo Gioriver Arias Volleyball Palace in the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.
The team, coached by Brazilian Luizomar de Moura, dominated the match for one hour and 17 minutes. They showed superiority in attack (36-35) and blocking (12-7).
Yalain Regla led the Cuban offense with 12 points, 11 of them on attacks, followed by Laura Beatriz Suárez, who scored 10.
Setter Gretel Moreno also had a standout performance in the Cuban victory.
For Puerto Rico, 16-year-old Decelise Champion contributed 11 points. While Adriana Rodríguez added 10.
Cuba, bronze medalist at the recent NORCECA Continental Championship, thus concluded its participation in the tournament with another third-place finish.
The Dominican Republic and Canada will play tonight for the final Olympic berth in this volleyball pre-tournament for the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
