The provinces of eastern Cuba, from Holguin to Guantanamo, were disconnected from the National Electric System (SEN) yesterday, the nation’s Electric Union reported.
Around 3:00 p.m., the entity explained in a message on its social media. That due to a fluctuation in the transmission lines. Unit 1 of the Lidio Ramón Pérez “Felton” Power Plant, Unit 6 of the Diez de Octubre Power Plant, and Unit 6 of the Antonio Maceo Power Plant went offline.
So far in 2026, the SEN has registered several nationwide power outages. Each lasting between five and eight hours, to achieve the gradual reconnection of the provinces.
These outages negatively impact not only families. But also businesses and all sectors of the Cuban economy.
Official data reflects that the power outages have required the implementation of restoration protocols. Prioritizing hospitals, pumping systems, and essential services. While progress is being made in reconnecting the remaining circuits.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez denounced earlier this month that the disconnections of the National Electric System (SEN) are a direct consequence of the genocidal US blockade. Particularly the energy embargo.
Rodríguez condemned on his social media account that the energy embargo not only prevents the free import of fuels. But also blocks the entry into the country of parts and components necessary for the SEN. It impedes collaboration with experts from other nations. And hinders access to international financing.
