Etecsa in Holguin protects services with renewable energy sources

The Cuban Telecommunications Company (Etecsa) in the province of Holguin advances in its strategy of incorporating renewable energy sources. With a view to supporting the vital services it provides to the population.

To date, 7 photovoltaic devices with 2 kilowatts of power have been installed and put into operation. Directly benefiting more than 5,000 landline customers and around 800 Nauta Hogar users. In addition to guaranteeing connectivity to state entities.

The equipment is distributed in four cabinets in the provincial capital, two in the municipality of Mayari and one in Moa. It is intended to power the batteries of the facilities that support landline telephony and Nauta Hogar.

A battery in optimal condition can operate between three and four hours. But in certain cases its capacity has already decreased, Guerrero added.

Although this initiative with renewable energy sources does not completely solve the need for energy backup at all sites. It constitutes a priority for the company, especially given the deficit of fuels for electricity generation.

Currently, the Territorial Division is working on the incorporation of photovoltaic panels in different radio bases in the province. Of the 31 assigned modules, 14 have already been placed, of which 11 have complete equipment.

At the same time, progress is being made in the installation of these units in the telecommunications centers of the municipal capitals. With the aim of ensuring energy coverage aimed at fixed and mobile telephony and connectivity in those territories.

In this process, Etecsa has had the support of the population, entities and forms of non-state management. Although the placement of this equipment depends on the availability of suppliers and the physical space that allows the assembly of the panels.
