More than one hundred kidney failure patients in Holguin are benefiting from the addition of 10 electric vehicles. Designated for their transport to hemodialysis centers. Which promotes the stability and punctuality of their treatment.
Joel Rodríguez Vázquez, director of the Taxis Cuba Agency in the province. He informed the Cuban News Agency that this batch of eco-friendly cars was acquired through the Ministry of Transportation’s development fund for the province. Each has a range of over 400 kilometers, facilitating transportation from remote municipalities.
Furthermore the vehicles are in optimal technical condition, registered, and have assigned drivers, ready to begin providing this vital service. Which has been affected by the country’s energy crisis, exacerbated by the United States’ economic blockade.
Rodríguez Vázquez noted that this is the first batch of a total of 20 units assigned to the province. The remainder are electric minibuses destined for public passenger transport.
Currently, the necessary conditions are being created to install the charging equipment, essential for keeping the vehicles operational. These vehicles will run in the morning and afternoon. For up to 12 hours a day, covering several shifts throughout the week.
Alden Angulo Roque, director of the regional unit of the Engineering Services Company Innova. He explained to the entity that the first stage involves connecting to the base via fast-charging stations. One with a capacity of two to three kilowatts (kW) and another with seven kW, which will guarantee the planned range.
He added that a second stage of energy generation using solar panels is planned, currently in the acquisition phase. This will allow for greater independence from the National Electric System. And ensure continuity of service even under adverse conditions.
Moreover Arturo Ortiz Calderón, head of the drivers’ brigade, emphasized that the team includes highly experienced drivers. Some with a long history in this type of service and others currently in training, all committed to quality and efficiency.
Angulo Roque explained that the Ministry of Transportation’s program promotes a shift in the energy matrix. Aimed at achieving greater stability in service, with the acquisition of 200 units distributed throughout the country. Of these, five are destined for the Isle of Youth, 40 for Havana. Also 15 for Granma, 20 for Guantanamo, and ten for each of the remaining provinces.
In conclusion the Innova Engineering Services Company, responsible for the installation and technological upgrade of these vehicles in eastern Cuba. They begin to work in Holguin and will continue in Granma, Santiago de Cuba, and Guantanamo.
