Mayari strengthens alliances with private sector for local development

Strengthening alliances between the municipal government and private sector was the focus of a meeting held in the Mayari municipality of Holguin province. As part of a strategy to boost local development and improve the well-being of the population.

Participants in the meeting included Dagmar Abad Noa, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Mayari. Geovanis Martín Gutiérrez, President of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power. And Mayor Lixan Hidalgo Romero, along with local entrepreneurs.

During the dialogue, key topics were prioritized. Such as consensus-building in economic management, the organization of productive activities, social responsibility, and support for initiatives. With a direct impact on the population, including pension payments.

The mayor announced the strengthening of the Municipal Government’s Development Department. Which will incorporate specialists focused on project management and support for self-employed workers and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). This measure aims to boost the territory’s potential and encourage investment and services to remain in the municipality.

Hidalgo Romero emphasized the importance of leveraging existing resources in Mayari before contracting external providers. Identified opportunities such as leasing state-owned equipment and promoting local projects with growth potential. He also noted that many self-employed workers have the conditions to become MSMEs. Expand their capabilities, and even establish partnerships with Cubans residing abroad.

Another topic discussed was compliance with tax obligations and the progress of the banking process. Key aspects for strengthening economic control and fiscal discipline. Authorities stressed the need to increase revenue for the municipal budget. Which is allocated to social programs.

In this regard, the behavior of cash deposits was evaluated. As their levels do not always correspond to the reported economic activity. Although Resolution 111 establishes daily deposits, agreements are in place in the territory. That allow deposits to be made every five days, provided they reflect actual income.

Regarding access to banking services, economic actors were urged to facilitate electronic transfers. Especially in the sale of high-demand products such as food and hygiene items. However, it was acknowledged that wholesale purchases continue to be made in cash. Which requires adequate liquidity to sustain businesses.

The meeting paid special attention to the payment of pensions to the municipality’s more than 15,000 retirees. A process that requires approximately 26 million pesos per month. Given the cash limitations in the banking system. The municipal government is promoting cooperation mechanisms with the private sector.

Experiences like those implemented in establishments such as Voltaje and Patio Español allow retirees to receive their benefits via transfers. Purchase basic goods, and withdraw their balance in cash. Thus contributing to improved monetary circulation in the area.

Authorities also called upon economic stakeholders to increase their contribution to community development. Also through concrete actions such as road repairs, improvements to public lighting, and other initiatives with social impact.

The exchange concluded with a commitment to maintain a systematic dialogue between the municipal government and the private sector. With the goal of consolidating alliances that promote economic growth and the well-being of the residents of Mayari.
