Iran Denounces Recent US Attacks as Violation of International Law

Iran’s Foreign Ministry asserted today that the recent US attacks on Iranian targets constitute a “clear violation” of international law and the principles of the UN Charter.

In a statement released by the official IRNA news agency. The Iranian Foreign Ministry maintained that the US military operations, justified by Washington as a response to the downing of an Apache military helicopter. Violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Persian nation.

According to the statement, the attacks violate Article 2, paragraph 4, of the UN Charter. Which prohibits the use of force against other states, and represent a transgression of fundamental norms of international law.

The Ministry asserted that the Iranian response falls within the exercise of the right to self-defense. Considering that US military bases and installations in the region were used to launch operations against Iranian territory. Tehran also reiterated its call to neighboring countries not to allow the use of their territories for military or logistical purposes directed against Iran.

Also the Foreign Ministry further urged the United Nations Security Council and Secretary-General António Guterres. To assume their responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security and to demand accountability for the attacks.

The statements come after the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the conclusion of a series of military operations against Iranian targets. Presented as retaliation for the downing of a U.S. helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian media reported explosions early Wednesday morning in several areas of southern Iran. Including the islands of Qeshm and Sirik, located in the strategic Strait of Hormuz region.

The new escalation comes as Tehran and Washington continue indirect negotiations initiated after the April 8th ceasefire. Reached to halt the conflict that erupted on February 28th between Iran, the United States, and Israel.

Also the deterioration of the talks led to the imposition of US restrictions on Iranian ports. Including those located in the Strait of Hormuz, a major route for global energy trade.

In response, Iran limited maritime traffic through the strait to vessels previously coordinated with its authorities. Amid fears of a ceasefire breakdown and a new military escalation with repercussions for international energy markets.
