The collection “Selected Works of Raúl Castro Ruz” was presented on June 2nd in Holguin. On the eve of the Army General’s 95th birthday. The nine volumes compile his thought and actions from 1951 to 2024.
Also the volumes were presented for the first time outside Havana. In the Plaza de la Revolución Mayor General Calixto García, by Jorge Luis Aneiros Alonso. Director of the Office of Historical Affairs of the Council of State. And by Eliel Gómez, president of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba in Holguin.
Aneiros Alonso explained that the collection is the result of a selection of works by various authors. Also it addresses crucial moments in the country’s history. Such as the initial volume, which includes Raúl Castro’s earliest known writings. Among them the 1951 article “Cubans in Korea.” He noted that the work also includes his writings from the Sierra Maestra period and his diaries from the Second Front. That throughout the volumes, events are explored that link Raúl’s figure to eastern Cuba and, in particular, to Holguin.
Furthermore the volumes also contain letters to his parents, writings from prison and exile, newspaper articles. Messages and declarations from the insurrection, speeches, and prologues to books such as those dedicated to the Heroes of Girón.
Among the most voluminous is the third volume, which covers the period from 1959 to 1960. With Raúl’s presence in the eastern region, first as head of the Second Front and later as minister of the newly created Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR). The fourth volume addresses the establishment of mandatory military service. The role of the FAR in the creation of the productive battalions, and the Youth Labor Column.
The director of the Office of Historical Affairs emphasized that Raúl’s historiographical assessments. Extensively compiled in these books, earned him the National History Prize in 2021. Eliel Gómez highlighted the importance of defending these texts in the current context. In which a silent war is being waged against Cuba, threatening its sovereignty. The way to confront this war is by reclaiming the nation’s history. Always characterized by the dignity of its heroes.
Moreover the presentation was attended by Joel Queipo Ruiz, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and First Secretary in the province. Manuel Francisco Hernández Aguilera, Governor of Holguin. As well as directors, intellectuals, and workers who support the work of the Revolution.

This edition is the result of a collaboration with the People’s Republic of China, featuring excellent print quality. It is also available for download from national websites in booklet and complete volume formats. Which include, as an added value, QR codes linked to a photo gallery associated with the published texts.
