The shift to renewable energy is sustaining production levels at the Holguin Raw Materials Recovery Company (ERMP). As part of a strategy aligned with the country’s energy matrix transformation policies.
Within the context of the reform, the company is increasing the collection, sorting, and transport of recyclable waste in the region. In a process that replaces the use of fossil fuels with clean energy through electric tricycles.
Yulio Feria Tamayo, the company’s deputy director, told CNA that the tricycles operate for approximately 10 hours at the Basic Business Units in each municipality. With an estimated recovery of 800 kilograms of waste per day.
Focused on maintaining industrial production, the company prioritized ensuring a reliable electricity supply through the installation of solar panels. Which provide autonomy for the vehicles, the pressing processes, and other equipment.
Feria Tamayo explained that the company has 60 solar panels installed, generating 50 kilowatts. This system is located at all of the company’s base units throughout the province and also powers the administrative offices.
Amid current energy limitations, the initiative seeks to shift electricity generation to renewable sources. In order to bring waste recovery services closer to communities and reduce dependence on the national power grid.
ERMP, founded on November 7th, 1961, belongs to the Recycling Business Group and reaffirms its social commitment through collection projects. That contribute significant resources to the economy and substitute imports.
