New Rome-Holguin Route to Boost Tourism in Eastern Cuba

Air connectivity between Europe and eastern Cuba will receive a significant boost on June 29th. When the Italian airline Neos Air inaugurates its direct flights between Rome and the province of Holguin. This new route, which will operate every Tuesday. It is poised to be a driving force for strengthening the flow of visitors to one of the most comprehensive tourist destinations in the Caribbean region.

In addition to facilitating access from Europe. Neos Air’s service will diversify the markets of travelers interested in Cuban culture and hospitality. The Ministry of Tourism (Mintur) highlighted in the magazine Sol de Cuba that this operation will encourage the arrival of tourists. To an area that combines history, nature, sun, and beaches.

The province is also known for its natural heritage, where the Alejandro de Humboldt National Park, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It stands out as a central hub for ecotourism.

On the other hand, the Holguin region boasts well-established infrastructure. Such as the Guardalavaca resort, which continues to undergo active development.

In this regard, two significant foreign investment projects stand out. Which will expand local hotel capacity: the construction of a new 500-room hotel in the northeastern part of Guardalavaca. With an estimated investment of $125 million. Also another ambitious project that will add 750 rooms through a joint venture with foreign capital. Both developments, expected to generate millions in annual revenue. It demonstrate the market’s confidence in the destination.

Furthermore, the opening of the route not only impacts the recreational sector but also stimulates the local economy. The region offers attractions such as Pico Cristal and Salto del Guayabo. Although its true economic engine lies in its hotel offerings.

To accommodate the growing number of visitors, the province’s infrastructure is continuously being modernized. For example, the recently promoted Sierra Cristal resort by Cosmos Hotels offers 640 rooms overlooking the Ramón de Antilla Peninsula. It includes a shopping and entertainment center to enhance the traveler’s experience.

Similarly, the Nipe Bay area adds significant historical and religious value to the destination. Complementing an offering that combines active relaxation with comfort.

In short, with the addition of this weekly flight by Neos Air, an airline founded in 2001 with a presence in more than 70 destinations. Cuba reaffirms itself as a safe and attractive choice in the intercontinental market. It is hoped that the increased hotel capacity will translate into greater well-being for workers in the tourism sector in the province of Holguin.
