Fashion and Film: When the Devil Dresses as a Journalist

Journalism, as a profession, has been adapted for film, and many productions explore it. Some based on true stories, others on fiction, but they always captivate viewers eager for quality productions.

The profession, a favorite for recruiting as spies in countries like the U.S.. It is, along with lawyers, doctors, firefighters, psychologists, police officers, presidents, writers, painters, and kings. Exploited to tell stories in films and television series.

When we talk about this topic, we all remember two classics: Citizen Kane (Orson Welles, 1941) and All the President’s Men (Alan Pakula, 1976).

As a journalist, I thoroughly enjoyed The Insider (Michael Mann, 1999). Which tells the story of Mark Felt, the informant who, in 1974. Under the pseudonym Deep Throat, helped Washington Post journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein uncover the Watergate scandal that led to President Richard Nixon’s resignation.

Now, journalism returns as a central theme in film with the already announced sequel to The Devil Wears Prada (2025). Marking the highly anticipated return of Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) and Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway). In a new chapter filled with ambition, rivalry, and high-stakes fashion drama.

Years after leaving Runway Magazine, Andy has made a name for herself as a successful journalist and media mogul. But when the ever-powerful Miranda faces the decline of print media, she is forced to adapt… or be left behind.

In a surprising turn of events, Miranda approaches Andy with an offer that could change everything. Meanwhile, Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), now a high-ranking executive at a luxury fashion house. She finds herself caught in a power struggle pitting old alliances against new ambitions.

With the fashion industry at a crossroads and digital platforms transforming the landscape between fashion and journalism. Miranda, Andy, and Emily must navigate the shifting terrain. While grappling with their own personal and professional challenges.

Can they evolve with the times, or will the past return to haunt them? Packed with sharp dialogue, haute couture, and the return of iconic characters, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is a stylish and dramatic sequel that promises unexpected twists. And turns when the devil takes on the role of journalist, blending glamour and the journalistic profession to weave a compelling story.
