The first time Carlos Cobas entered a CMKO Radio Angulo studio in Holguin was in 1998. At that time, he was a student at the Holguin Polytechnic Institute. He had been invited to the program “Nuestro Tiempo” (Our Time). Until then, he knew nothing about radio, and it was love at first sight.
By chance, a few days after his first experience in a radio studio. He heard about a call for actors to be trained at the UNEAC (National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba) by writer and program director Gabino Gil Molina.
Carlos was already bitten by the acting bug and decided to enroll in the course. Which allowed him to work on dramatized programs such as the children’s show “Fiesta de Colores” (Party of Colors). Also which was directed at that time by Miguel Gutiérrez Guetón.
At the end of the course, Gabino himself announced that another one would begin. This time with Rafael Peña Santana as the voice-over instructor and Roger Martínez as the sound instructor. It was a comprehensive course, designed to offer a broad overview of radio specialties. He decided to continue improving himself. So he was still a teenager studying for his technical degree.

During this process, he discovered that sound interested him more than any other specialty. Even acting, where it had all begun. It was then that he began to specialize in sound under the guidance of Roger Martínez. A producer with extensive experience, who became his mentor.
His initial work at CMKO was focused on sound, and between 1998 and 2002. Also he was able to train and learn from the producers of those years. Who opened the studio doors to him and to whom he is eternally grateful for his training. This experience allowed him to master almost 80 percent of the live and recorded programs that were broadcast.

Over time, his strongest connection to the station was with the News Department at Radio Angulo. Also where he continues to record journalistic pieces. Even so, he hasn’t stopped producing a variety of programs and dramas. We can remember him on shows like “Qué tal joven” (How’s It Going, Youth?). Where he was one of the announcers for seven years. On the now-defunct youth program “Muchachos” (Boys); and on “De joven a joven” (From Young Man to Young Man). Which he founded in 2011 and produced for eight years with journalism students. Currently, you can hear him in the early hours of weekend mornings on the “Onda Cero” nightclub. A program he has been hosting for 26 years.

Today, Carlos Cobas remains that teenager who arrived at the radio station 28 years ago and fell in love with it. Announcer, sound engineer, and program director, Carlitos considers himself a lucky producer, and here he tells us why:
In the 90th anniversary year of CMKO Radio Angulo, we continue telling stories.
