Holguin Reinforces Care for Pregnant Women in Rural Areas

The health system in Holguin province is prioritizing care for pregnant women residing in rural and hard-to-reach areas. As part of programs aimed at vulnerable populations.

Yelena Rodríguez Rodríguez, head of the Obstetrics area in the maternal and child health section of the General Directorate of the sector. She explained to the Cuban News Agency (CNA) that care begins at the family doctor and nurse’s offices.

She noted that pregnant women are admitted to maternity homes starting at 34 weeks. To facilitate care in case of delivery, taking into account risk factors.

The official pointed out that in the municipality of Sagua de Tanamo, which includes areas of the Turquino Plan. Some pregnant women are admit to specialized institutions at 32 weeks due to the geographical location.

Rodríguez Rodríguez indicated that, despite the intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade, efforts are made. To guarantee quality care for both mothers and newborns.

Holguin currently has 3,160 pregnant women and a network of six maternity homes. Specialized teams in the municipalities, and guaranteed primary and secondary healthcare.
