With the aim of keeping Martí’s spirit alive and strengthening patriotic awareness among new generations. Holguin will celebrate the fourth annual “Martí in Holguin” Festival.
This celebration of Martí’s ideals, which will run from May 9th to 19th. It is coordinated by the José Martí Cultural Society, the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP). The Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), the Martí Chair at the University of Holguin. Also the Union of Historians of Cuba (UNHIC), the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), and the Union of Young Communists (UJC).
The program will include a variety of activities. From lectures by specialists to special morning assemblies and community events. All designed to promote this deep-rooted Martí sentiment within the community’s sociocultural context.
Among the highlights of this year’s event is the First Provincial Workshop “Martí in Holguin.” A theoretical and research forum that, from both academic and community perspectives, discusses the enduring relevance of the Apostle and strengthens critical thinking about his work. The dossier from the Third edition, which compiles the most important aspects of the previous gathering. It serves as a living record for new generations, will also be presented digitally.
One of the most anticipated activities for young people will be the encampment in Travesía, in the municipality of Urbano Noris. That is the site where Martí camped with Holguin residents on May 10th, 1895. Each year, this event brings together dozens of young people for cultural and recreational activities.
As well as for engaging with history. In the previous edition, a moving intergenerational dialogue was held there, presided over by Joel Queipo Ruíz, First Secretary of the PCC in Holguin, and this year’s vigil will be repeated. As a culmination, the Order of Affection will be awarded. A distinction that recognizes love, perseverance, and dedication to the work and ideals of José Martí.
In this way, the Day of Affection is consolidated as a space for encounter, reflection, and affection. Also where the legacy of Cuba’s National Hero remains alive in every activity, debate, and tribute. It demonstrates that the “great affection” Martí felt for this land 131 years ago remains intact, is inherited, and multiplies in new generations.
