University of Holguin Signs Agreement to Boost Wind Energy

On the path toward the country’s energy transformation, the University of Holguin (UHo) is taking a giant step. The CAD-CAM Studies Center officially presented the project “Resilience of Wind Technology in Cuba.” An initiative that will drive the shift in the energy matrix using the power of the wind.

In a context where diversifying energy sources is a priority for the nation’s sustainable development. This institution of higher learning reaffirms its commitment to science and innovation.

Also the event was attended by Pavel Luis Angulo Peña, Technical Director of the National Electric Union (UNE). Rubert Reynaldo González, Director of the Holguin Electric Company. Along with the Rector of UHo, Aniuska Ortiz Pérez, and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Nurbia Ivia Zaragoza. They signed the contract that initiates this strategic collaboration.

In this way, the institutional commitment that will allow for the development of the planned research and applications formalized. The initiative primarily aims to make Cuban wind farms more resilient and efficient. To achieve this goal, three fundamental lines of work will be implement.

First, a new organizational structure will be designed for the administration of the wind farms. Enabling more efficient management of these resources. Second, forecasting services based on historical wind data will be developed. Facilitating more precise energy planning.

Furthermore, as one of the most innovative results a software tool with Artificial Intelligence. It will optimize the operation and maintenance of wind turbines. This technology will allow for anticipating potential failures and maximizing electricity generation from wind.

Dr. Yorley Arbella Feliciano, who is leading the project, confirmed that science and innovation from the University of Holguin are at the service of Cuba’s energy development. In this regard, he emphasized that this research will not only contribute to the resilience of wind energy technology.

With this initiative, the University of Holguin (UHo) demonstrates once again that Cuban higher education is at the forefront of the search for solutions to the country’s problems. Consolidating strategic alliances with the business sector and the governing bodies of the national electricity system.
