Two Cuban productions, Calle 232 and Baracoa, are among the shortlisted films for the thirteenth edition of the Platino XCARET Awards. A festival celebrating the best of Ibero-American cinema.
These films are part of the six productions from the Caribbean archipelago. Included in the list of 258 selected films. Following a first phase that evaluated more than 1,200 titles from 23 Ibero-American countries. Reported the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC).
Calle 232, directed by Rudy Mora, tells the story of an artist marked by the abandonment of colleagues, friends, and family. Also who finds support in a young caregiver; from this relationship emerges a transformative friendship that redefines their lives.
Meanwhile, Baracoa, by director Luis Ernesto Doñas, follows the journey of Felipe. An Italian revolutionary who became a naturalized Cuban citizen. Accompanied by Pepe and the doctor Jimmi, on a trip to the easternmost city of the country. A journey that becomes a profoundly transformative experience.
The Platino Awards, created by the Audiovisual Producers’ Rights Management Entity (EGEDA) together with the Ibero-American Federation of Film and Audiovisual Producers (FIPCA). The Ibero-American Federation of Academies of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (FIACINE), Latin Artist, and with the support of film institutes in the región. Incorporate 12 new categories this year to broaden recognition for professionals and disciplines within the industry.
Cuba’s presence in this pre-selection reaffirms the strength of its film industry on the international stage.
