“Every day, more people in the United States are discovering the lies that (President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio) are telling about Cuba,” the activist emphasized.
She recalled that on June 3rd, a national day of action was held under the slogan “No to War Against Cuba.” In which people across the country demonstrated, displayed banners on overpasses. And disseminated information about the criminal U.S. oil blockade of the Caribbean nation.
This energy embargo, “is literally starving the Cuban people and killing babies in a slow genocide,” Block warned.
We know that the Cuban people will defend their sovereignty against the sanctions and the threat of a military attack, she stressed. “And we, from the United States, will do everything possible to continue supporting Cuba and prevent war,” she concluded.
Moreover this Thursday, the Treasury Department announced the inclusion of President Miguel Díaz-Canel, members of his family. As well as Cuban institutions, civil society organizations, and companies, on a unilateral and illegitimate sanctions list. The president stated on social media that these sanctions “are aimed at reinforcing the #blockade measures and the conflict scenario between Cuba and the United States.” He asserted that “this political blindness adds to the coercive measures applied in recent weeks against our country. Designed to harm the Cuban people.”
For his part, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez, denouncing this “illegitimate and unilateral list by the United States government” on the same platform. Warned that “it is the latest example of the US interventionist plan to portray Cuba as a threat to the national security” of this country.
The day before, Trump reiterated his threats against the Caribbean nation to reporters at the White House. Stating that he intends to deal with it in a “brief stop” once his war with Iran is over.
