Trump Insists on Seizing Greenland

Despite the rejection of his annexation plan by residents, authorities, and European leaders. President Donald Trump insisted today that “anything less” than US control over Greenland is “unacceptable.”

The rhetoric surrounding the Arctic island, an autonomous territory of Denmark rich in oil reserves and rare earth elements. Among other coveted resources, has intensified in recent days. The US president repeatedly reiterates his argument for acquiring Greenland for reasons of national security.

“NATO becomes far more formidable and effective with Greenland in the hands of the United States.” Trump wrote Wednesday morning on Truth Social. “Anything less than that is unacceptable,” he emphasized.

Trump stressed that control over Greenland is “vital to the Golden Dome we are building.” Referring to the missile defense system being developed by the Pentagon, and demanded that NATO exert more pressure to achieve his objective.

“NATO should lead the way for us to get it. If we don’t, Russia or China will, and that’s not going to happen! Militarily, without the enormous power of the United States. Much of which I built during my first term and I am now taking to a new and even higher level…,” he added in his post on the internet platform.

On Monday, Republican Congressman Randy Fine of Florida introduced a bill to annex the autonomous territory of Greenland from Denmark. Make it the 51st state of the United States.

Trump is confident he will achieve his goal “one way or another,” whether by purchase or even by force. The day before, he dismissed the statements of Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen: “Greenland does not want to be owned by the United States. Greenland does not want to be governed by the United States. Greenland will not be part of the United States.”

At a press conference in Copenhagen, Nielsen reiterated his government’s position that “we choose the Greenland we know today. Which is part of the Kingdom of Denmark.”

Meanwhile, amid this tension surrounding the threat of annexation, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and other White House officials will meet this Wednesday at the Executive Mansion with the foreign ministers of Denmark and Greenland.

Nielsen also told reporters, “If we have to choose between the United States and Denmark here and now, we choose Denmark.”

French President Emmanuel Macron warned this Wednesday that a U.S. annexation of the Danish island would have cascading consequences.
