With a solemn ceremony at the Plaza de la Revolución Monumental Complex, which bears his name, Holguin commemorated the 127th anniversary of the death of Major General Calixto García Íñiguez and the 45th anniversary of the transfer of his remains to Cuban soil.
The event, presided over by the province’s top authorities. Including Joel Queipo Ruiz, member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in the province. Included military honors, the laying of a floral wreath, and three gun salutes, in remembrance of the hero of Cuban independence.
Futhermore the commemoration included artistic and musical performances that evoked the life and steadfastness of the distinguished patriot. Bridging the gap between the heroic past and the present.
Moreover in this context, the connection with new generations was highlighted through the awarding of prizes for the “With the Star on Your Forehead” contest. An initiative that fostered creativity and the study of national history among young people, and the formal creation of the Calixto García Íñiguez Front.
Under the name of the illustrious mambí (Cuban independence fighter). This constitution symbolizes the organization of a unified space for action and commitment to honor and project his legacy of independence into the present day.
Likewise, the day was framed within the tenth edition of the National Youth Seminar “To the General of the Three Wars,” organized by the Martí Youth Movement and several institutions. Held at the hero’s birthplace, the event brought together young people from all over the country. Who presented research, art, and literary works.
Also among the award winners in the different committees were Jessica Oro Parra, Melani Quevedo Rojas, and Yunior Muñoz Matos. Along with other students distinguished in the Outstanding and Relevant categories. For Cuba and the people of Holguin, Calixto García is an enduring symbol of resistance, dignity, and patriotism.
His legacy, forged in sacrifice and the tireless struggle for Independence. Transcends time to inspire new generations to defend sovereignty, cultivate unity, and emulate his unwavering commitment to the nation.
Finally on the 127th anniversary of his passing, his figure stands not only as a historical memory. But also as a beacon guiding the sense of belonging and the duty to continue building the Cuba for which he fought so hard.
