Holguin Cubs Remain on Top

The Holguin Cubs, playing at home in Calixto García Stadium, reaffirmed their dominance in the 64th National Series on Thursday. With another convincing victory over the Santiago Wasps, maintaining their lead in the standings.

The Holguin squad unleashed their bats without hesitation. Dismantling the Santiago pitching staff with an 18-hit barrage, enough to secure a 12-2 win. Lázaro Cedeño once again delivered a stellar performance: his 14th home run and 58 RBIs. Numbers that are bordering on the absurd. Christian Onofre also sent the ball soaring, driving in four runs to complete the scoring.

On the opposing side, only Harold Vázquez and Carlos Monier managed to salvage some pride with solo home runs. The only ones allowed by Luis Caser in another solid start. The Matanzas Crocodiles defeated Industriales 6-3 at Victoria de Girón Stadium. Thanks to Esteban Terry’s double, first tying the game with a home run and then driving in the decisive run with a single. Silvio Iturralde, razor-sharp, pitched 3.2 perfect innings to secure his eighth win.

Moreover the Las Tunas Lumberjacks silenced the Cándido González Stadium once again, this time defeating the Camagüey Bulls 4-0. Yudier Rondón led the offense with three hits. Yosmel Garcés pitched seven commanding innings.

Cienfuegos continued their dominant run, defeating Isla de la Juventud 13-9, extending their winning streak to six games. Fueled by three RBIs each from Erick Acevedo and José Manuel Oramas. In Pinar del Rio, Mayabeque once again troubled the Vegueros with a 5-4 victory in 10 innings. While Artemisa swept Sancti Spiritus in two games, winning 9-7 and 4-2, both with grit and determination.

Guantanamo repeated the feat, defeating Villa Clara 6-5, and the game between Ciego de Avila and Granma ended in a 4-4 tie after nine innings due to darkness.

Today, the standings reaffirm Holguin (33-18) at the top, followed by Las Tunas (30-18), Industriales (31-19), and Matanzas (32-21), while Cienfuegos, Artemisa, Mayabeque, and Sancti Spiritus remain in contention.
