Cuban authorities expressed their support for Colombian President Gustavo Petro. In response to recent statements by the US government accusing him of being a leader of illegal drug trafficking.
Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Cuban Party (PCC) and President of the Republic. He expressed his support for Petro in a message on X and asserted that the peoples of Our America stand with Colombia.
“We reject the interference and fallacies of the United States government. Which is attempting to reimpose the Monroe Doctrine in its relations with the sovereign nations of Latin America and the Caribbean,” he emphasized.
For his part, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated on the same social network. That the US government’s statements constitute a threat to Colombian sovereignty and seek to interfere in that nation’s internal affairs.
The accusations were made by US President Donald Trump through his Truth Social platform. Where he also announced the suspension of payments and subsidies from his country to Colombia.
Hours earlier, Gustavo Petro accused the United States of murdering 40-year-old Colombian fisherman. Alejandro Carranza on the high seas and violating his country’s sovereignty.
Likewise, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP). They declared in a statement that the US president launched. “A series of lies and fabrications aimed at linking President Petro and his government to illicit drug production.”
The Alliance expressed its “unwavering solidarity with the people and government of Colombia”. Reaffirmed its respect for their sovereignty, democracy, and right to freely decide their future.
It also called on the international community to reject all forms of interference, pressure, or threats of the use of force. To defend international law and peace in Our America.
