Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel recalled the commemoration of Cuban Culture Day today via the social media platform X.
“Our National Anthem, which moves us with its beauty and strength, was sung for the first time on October 20th. This patriotic event marks the moment in which we celebrate Cuban Culture Day,” he wrote.
He also noted that only culture will make men and women free and that it is the first thing that must be saved. Because with culture standing, intact, and venerated, the Homeland is saved. Maxims expressed by the Cuban Apostle José Martí and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
“Congratulations to those who make it possible and defend it,” he added.
For his part, the island’s foreign minister referred to the historic event that occurred 157 years ago and noted that today, Cubans celebrate “with the strength that defines us and unites us everywhere: our rich blend of music, joy, history, and traditions.”
Cuban culture is identity, history, resilience, pride, and the voice of our nation to the world.
Cuban Culture Day is much more than a celebration of art. It is not only about paying tribute to artistic expressions, but also about honoring something deeper: culture as the foundation of an idea of nationhood. As the spiritual fabric that has guaranteed the identity of the Cuban people throughout time.
It encompasses the values, traditions, aspirations, and memory that give meaning to collective existence. Celebrating Cuban culture is, ultimately, celebrating a people’s ability to reinvent themselves without losing their essence.
Cuban culture, diverse and fertile, is an area of constant convergence. It is a dialogue between currents, generations, and worldviews. It is the living expression of a history where the indigenous and the universal merge. Moreover where the roots open up to the wind of influences without relinquishing their vitality.
This constant dialectic, this movement between tradition and modernity, between the local and the global, defines its strength. Culture is, ultimately, the amalgam that unites a people in its plurality.
