Call for Entries for the 20th Gibara Low-Rise Film Festival

The Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC in the Spanish acronym) announced the official call for entries for the 20th Gibara International Low-Fat Film Festival. Which will be held from April 14th to 18th, 2026.

This edition, which aims to celebrate twenty years of Humberto Solás’s audiovisual revolution. Also will open its admissions period on October 6th and will run until January 5th, 2026, according to the event’s website.

Works of any nationality, presented in their original language and with Spanish subtitles, are eligible to participate. Moreover with submissions due between 2024 and the closing date of this call.

As is customary for each edition, filmmakers will have different categories to submit, including fiction, documentary, animation, and experimental film. Each of which will benefit from the critical eye of prominent figures in national and international cinema.

Those interested should be careful when completing the registration form, which will be available on the Festival’s website. As incomplete entries will not be accepted.

A special reason for celebration for this event is the arrival of the Festival’s twentieth anniversary. Futhermore as it reaffirms the relevance of a project founded in 2003 and which, despite years of forced hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It has managed to remain alive for twenty editions, announced the ICAIC.

Cine Pobre is not just a name: it is a philosophy, a banner, and a movement that has transcended borders. Consolidating Gibara as the epicenter of committed, plural, and deeply human cinema, according to the call for entries.
