Until Wednesday, September 24th, Holguin hosted the 39th Provincial Heritage Researchers Workshop. A space that celebrates and promotes Holguin’s historical and cultural legacy each year.
From the La Periquera Provincial Museum, several researchers gathered to make Holguin the epicenter of knowledge and culture. Through a program that included discussions, presentations, exhibitions, and conferences. All focused on sharing and honoring our heritage.
During the first few days, the La Periquera Visual Arts Room was inaugurated. Moreover through presentations and conferences, they highlighted the importance of more interactive, inclusive, and accessible museums. Promoting the active participation of all audiences, respecting cultural rights, and supporting the sustainable development of heritage.
Sponsored by the Union of Cuban Historians (UNHIC in the Spanish acronym), the museum’s management, and the Provincial Heritage Directorate. The event was part of the activities held throughout the region to honor Holguin researchers.
Also the celebration of Holguin Historian’s Day is a unique tradition in the country. Following the death of José Agustín García Castañeda, who was named City Historian in 1950. For dedicating his life to the study of the local past, it was agreed to honor his memory every September 22nd.
