The Embryology and Fertility Department at the Holguin University of Medical Sciences is developing a joint project with the Assisted Reproduction Center at the Vladimir Ilich Lenin University General Hospital. Related to comprehensive care for infertile couples. The project is comprised of approximately 45 students and 20 healthcare professionals.
Its president, Dr. Kenia Carcasés Sánchez, explained in a recent publication by Infomed Holguin that as part of this agreement, they are developing workshops and health promotion activities on issues related to infertility in couples.
Regarding the professionals and students who make up this department, the first-degree specialist in Embryology states that it was formed in 2019 with the goal of integrating staff and students from the Faculty of Medical Sciences to jointly promote research on topics related to embryology and fertility and thus be represented at events.
The comprehensive care project for infertile couples is a good example of how many scientific results can be achieved in this northeastern region through interdisciplinary and multicenter projects on topics such as prenatal stimulation, pregnancy, the impact of infertility, molecular genetics, and the impact of embryology and assisted reproduction in the Maternal and Child Program (PAMI).
The current Assisted Reproduction Program for Human Beings, founded in 2007 as the Infertile Couple Care Program. Also it is implemented in Cuba through consultation services in each municipality. In provincial hospital units, and four high-tech regional clinics. One of which is located in Holguin, providing care to the eastern region of the country.
