Origins Project Promotes Craft Techniques Workshops in Holguin

The Origins sociocultural project promotes traditional craft techniques workshops with diverse population groups in the Holguin provincial capital.

The program extends to students, autistic children, special schools, and hospitals, and is partnered with the Federation of Cuban Women, the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment. The Lazaro Peña Cigar Company, and the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation.

Anisley Reyes Martínez, project leader, explained to the Cuban News Agency that among the objectives is to integrate homemakers and professionals. Who reproduce traditional techniques through utilitarian and decorative objects.

The initiative also seeks to transmit intangible cultural heritage to other generations and foster an aesthetic taste based on the identity of its different manifestations, she emphasized.

Origins was founded in 2019 and is located in the Manuel Dositeo Aguilera Cultural Center. Includes artisans in various neighborhoods in the municipality of Holguin. Its free workshops cover engraving techniques, crafts, textile and paper printing, among others.
