Holguin Art Center Hosts Lectures on Religious Art

As part of the Aurora spiritual art project, the Electa Arenal Hall of the Provincial Center for Visual Arts recently hosted a series of lectures. Focusing on religion, to discuss a topic that is so in-demand in artistic movements.

The first lecture was led by Yurisander Velázquez, with the lecture “Art and Spirituality in India,” which addressed the emergence of Hinduism as a religión. The reflection of its principles in art, and the concepts that revolve around it.

The second lecture was presented by journalist Enrique Betancourt Gutiérrez, and focused on the life and work of British painter and writer Austin Osman Spare. A practitioner of various occult currents.

Led by Dr. Yurisel Moreno Zaldívar and Dr. Alejandro Torres Gómez de Cádiz, the final keynote lectures concluded the summer course on art and religion. This course served as the theoretical component of the Aurora Project.

Held this summer at the center in homage to the origins of art. According to the organizing committee, art, as we know it, has its origins in religion and magic; and there is no difference between art and magic.
