Calixto Garcia carries out the second polio vaccination

The opening of the second stage of the polio vaccination campaign in the Holguin municipality of Calixto Garcia went favorably. More than a thousand infants out of the nearly 1,700 planned for this occasion recently received the two drops orally from health personnel, who once again played a key role in ensuring the quality supply of this important vaccine.

This was acknowledged by Dr. Etnis Berrey Velázquez, the municipality’s epidemiologist. Responsible for preventing transmissible and vaccine-preventable diseases.

“We can classify the day as productive, as it was organized in advance and mechanisms were sought to reach families, and the response is reflected in the statistics.”

She insisted that reports are still being received from each of the areas and added that children who have not yet received it still have the opportunity to do so until next Friday in the vaccination posts.

Vaccination centers in their respective polyclinics, and if they present fever, vomiting, or diarrhea, they will have another opportunity from June 23rd to 27th to catch up on their polio vaccination.

“Here, children from one month old up to two years, 11 months, and 29 days, who have already received a first dose in April, are vaccinated, and children who are nine years old are also included. All guarantees are in place to carry out the vaccination schedule without setbacks, she assured.

In full swing, with the disposition that distinguishes her, we find the experienced nurse Isabel Caballero leading the vaccination site at the polyclinic of San Agustin de Aguaras.

“We are making progress without difficulty, as the 186 children who will benefit were called in a timely manner and many families have been here since early to ensure their children’s well-being.” For our part, we have the same willingness and dedication to carry out the task with the same love and charisma as always.

Undoubtedly, these are days of intense hustle for the health personnel, but at the same time they show ample evidence of commitment, loyalty, and attachment to one of the most altruistic and generous professions.
