Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez denounced today that the new restrictions on entry to the United States are intended to deceive the citizens of that country and violate the rights of migrants.
Through the social network X, he singled out anti-Cuban politicians. Including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as the main promoters of the measure. Accusing them of betraying the communities that elected them.
As of this Monday, President Donald Trump’s new immigration veto went into effect, which prohibits and restricts the entry into the United States of citizens from 19 countries, alleging national security reasons.
Last June 4th, Trump signed a proclamation that totally limits the entry of nationals from 12 countries “with deficiencies in evaluation and background checks, and who represent a very high risk to the United States,” he said.
That group includes Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
Meanwhile, it “partially restricts and limits” the entry of nationals from seven other countries that, according to the directive, “also pose a high level of risk to the United States” and in that case includes Cuba, Venezuela, Burundi, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo and Turkmenistan.
Trump made the final decision to sign this proclamation in the wake of the recent anti-Semitic attack in Boulder, Colorado, although the idea was already floating around in Washington.
The Cuban Foreign Minister also denounced that anti-Cuban politicians in the United States remain silent in the face of the wave of repression against migrants and journalists in Los Angeles, California.
The protests and the federal response continued to escalate this day with calls for demonstrations in the cities of Atlanta, Burlington and New York under slogans such as ‘ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) out’ and ‘Stop the deportations’.
Thousands of people expressed in the streets their rejection of the immigration policies of Donald Trump’s government. Which the day before ordered the deployment of two thousand additional National Guard members and some 700 Pentagon Marines.
