As it could not be otherwise, the great “friendship” between the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and the technology magnate, Elon Musk, both very controversial characters, came to an end and now they are facing each other in a creeping combat where both lose money and prestige.
The White House is not a place where such big egos can coexist, greedy for power and riches, more and more riches, so the break was only a matter of time. Although many perhaps did not expect such virulence, nor such low crosses of arguments.
The end of the romance began when Trump, who had commissioned his “friend” to make a drastic cut in public spending by laying off tens of thousands of federal employees, announced a project that will increase military spending and tax cuts for the richest.
According to what was leaked by the press, which is not everything and certainly not the most important thing either, the owner of Tesla and the X network felt let down and announced his retirement from government, which was supposedly done on good terms.
Reality showed the depth of the rift when Musk referred to the president’s project as abominable and disgusting.
That was only the first round of the fight, as later the also owner of SpaceX assured that without him and his multimillionaire contributions Trump would have lost the elections and the Democrats would have total control of Congress.
In response, the U.S. president said that a good way to cut federal spending would be to eliminate all deals signed or promised to Musk’s companies, which add up to a few billion.
Once sanity was lost, the accusations escalated to undesirable limits and responses came to both of them from the highly sensitive financial markets.
It is estimated that the South African-born tycoon lost 140 to 150 billion dollars due to the drop in his companies’ shares. Meanwhile, Trump was hit by the 8 percent drop of his Truth Media network and the main Wall Street indicators plummeted.
In the United States, anything can be endangered, including human life, but not capital, so the days ahead will be arduous in that country, where Musk has already announced that he will use his money and his social network X to attack those who defend the president’s budget project.
His statement was withering: “Trump has 3.5 years of government left, I have 40 years to live”. Stuff, folks, of the misnamed capitalist paradise.
Donald Trump, has stated this Saturday that there would be “very serious consequences” if tycoon Elon Musk finances Democratic candidates to compete against Republicans who backed the tax legislation project promoted by his cabinet.
