The President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, participated today in the parade marking the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945).
The president, who arrived in Russia on an official visit on May 4th at the head of a delegation, is one of more than 30 heads of state or government who took part in the commemorations of this memorable anniversary in the capital of the Slavic nation.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in his speech at the start of the military parade commemorating the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany. Asserted that his country was, is, and will be invincible against Nazism and its plans to occupy the Eurasian giant.

“Russia has been and will remain an indestructible barrier against Nazism, Russophobia, and anti-Semitism. And will fight against the atrocities committed by the proponents of these aggressive and destructive ideas. Truth and justice are on our side,” he stated.
Putin emphasized that Russia “remembers the lessons of World War II and will never accept the distortion of its events. As almost 80 percent of the world’s population was drawn into the fiery orbit of the war.”
The complete defeat of Nazi Germany, militaristic Japan, and their satellites in different regions of the world was achieved through the joint efforts of the countries of the United Nations, he recalled.
The great historical role played by the Soviet Union as the victor over the fascists caused it inconceivable damage.
The country lost 26.6 million people in the devastating conflict and approximately one-third of its national wealth.
The parade featured 183 pieces of military equipment—both iconic examples from the Great Patriotic War and the latest models in service with the Russian Army.
The event was led by legendary T-34 tanks and SU-100 self-propelled artillery units. 11,500 soldiers from the various armed forces of the Slavic country. Also marched, of which 1,500 are active participants in the armed conflict on Ukrainian territory.
