As part of his official visit to Russia, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bérmudez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic today witnessed the implementation of a recent agreement at the Moskvich Automobile Factory for a fleet of taxis for the Caribbean island.
According to the Presidency, during the visit it was revealed that in the first phase of the project, 50 cars are planned to be sent to Cuba: 25 Moskvich 3 and 25 Moskvich 3e electric vehicles.
The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC in the Spanish acronym), who toured the factory with Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, verified the quality of the vehicles that will be used in his country.
During the visit, Sobyanin donated 10 Moskvich 6 cars to Cuba for social services in Havana. In the long term, the Moskvich car program will be able to serve 2.2 million residents of the Caribbean capital. More than 150,000 Russian tourists, and numerous guests from other countries who visit Cuba each year.
The Cuban head of state thanked the mayor, the factory’s managers, and workers, and said that this brand, of great quality and durability, is well known in his country.
In Cuba, he said, many of them are still in operation, thanks also to the ingenuity of Cuban mechanics. Díaz-Canel arrived in Russia this Sunday via the city of St. Petersburg. Where he carried out two days of work before traveling to Moscow, the capital.
As the main activity of the official visit, the Cuban delegation will participate in the parade on March 9th commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics over Nazi Germany.
Also representing the island are Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla. Emilio Lozada García, member of the PCC Central Committee and head of its International Relations Department, and the Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, Oscar Pérez-Oliva Fraga.
