As part of the celebrations for International Workers’ Day. The Cuban Workers’ Federation (CTC) in Holguin honored workers and union leaders during a ceremony held at the Major General Calixto García Íñiguez Monumental Complex. A space that symbolizes the commitment to the values of the Cuban labor movement and its role in socialist construction.
At the ceremony, six Holguin residents received the Lázaro Peña Order, degrees II and III. Including Odalis Cobas Peña, from the Civil Defense Workers Union, and Carlos López Pérez, representative of the Food and Fisheries Industry Union. In recognition of their decades of contributions to the province’s economic and social development.
Seven workers from strategic sectors—construction, the food industry, and defense—were awarded the Jesús Menéndez Medal for their significant contributions to strengthening the region’s productive sector.
The most emotional moment was the posthumous presentation of this recognition to Jorge Luis Pérez Ordóñez. Received by his son on behalf of the family. Four professionals received the “Labor Achievement” Medal for their outstanding participation in the recovery efforts following Hurricanes Oscar and Rafael.
Demonstrating the resilient spirit characteristic of the Cuban people in the face of climatic adversity. As part of the commemorations for the 85th anniversary of the CTC. A commemorative stamp was presented, representing the historical continuity of the labor movement.
In a special gesture, journalist Alfredo Carralero Hernández was awarded the Coat of Arms of the Province of Holguin. The highest honor recognizing his reporting work in service to national interests. Yanara Guerrero Batista, a member of the CTC secretariat, emphasized:
“Your example takes on special meaning. This is the response of Cuban workers: to fight, think, and work as a nation to continue our revolutionary work.” The event was attended by Joel Queipo Ruiz, member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the provincial PCC. Along with Manuel Francisco Hernández Aguilera, governor of the territory.
They encouraged the recipients to proudly participate in the May Day parade. Wearing their awards as a symbol of revolutionary dedication and pride for the Holguin labor movement.
