Holguin benefits from new Chinese donation for photovoltaic parks

Holguin is one of the Cuban provinces benefiting from the new Chinese donation. That will allow another 120 megawatts (MW) of electricity generation through photovoltaic parks to be added this year.

This donation, according to the publication of the newspaper Granma, will lead to the execution of seven 5 MW Parks. That will be located in regions of the West and East of the country. On this occasion, the provinces of Artemisa, Pinar del Rio, Las Tunas, Holguin, Granma and Guantanamo will have this safe and clean technology to generate electricity.

The first shipment of inputs for the execution of the Project. As a result of cooperation between Cuba and the People’s Republic of China, is already being distributed to the territories in which they will be located. The resources will be completed in the first half of this year.

Granma points out that this is a collaboration that is a symbol of the close and supportive cooperation between the two nations. And that it includes a second phase for another 85 MW, to complete the 120 MW, which will be installed in 2025.
Cuba thanked the Chinese government for the high sensitivity and understanding to speed up the implementation of this renewable energy project.

The Chinese ambassador to Cuba, Hua Xin, explained that the installation of these parks will mean a considerable reduction in fuel consumption. In addition to reducing energy effects and injecting vitality into the island’s economic development.

The information refers to the fact that this project, as a donation, is carried out between the Shanghai Electric company and the Cuban Electric Union.
In 2014, the country approved a policy whose goal was to reach 24% of electricity production from renewable sources.

There is a macro program that provides for the installation of 92 photovoltaic Parks. With a total of 2,012 MW, of which more than 1,000 MW will be installed this year with the assembly of more than 50 parks throughout the national territory.
By the end of March, there will be more than 170 MW generated with solar energy in Cuba through eight parks in operation.
