Health evaluation kit for older adults

A geriatrics and gerontology evaluation kit, which includes seven measuring equipment for different parameters, including an automatic sphygmomanometer and pulse oximeter, arrives today at care centers for the elderly in Cuba.

The kit, already present in 158 nursing homes and 30 psychopedagogical medical centers, includes a digital clinical thermometer, a hammer for measuring neurological reflexes, a flashlight for clinical use, a double-bell stethoscope for auscultation of the respiratory cardiovascular system, the abdomen, the carotid, as well as equipment for the prevention and treatment of ulcers (Stimul w). and its scarring.

Moreover it will also soon incorporate a Suma Sensor glucometer (for monitoring glocusa in blood) and a system for the comprehensive clinical management of cognitive deficits in the elderly (NeuroGer), its authors, from the company Combiomed, of the BioCubaFarma group, a leader in the development of health products and equipment, from conception to use in patients, explained to the Granma newspaper.

The general director of Combiomed, Arlem Fernández, explained that the implementation of this equipment seeks to offer more comprehensive and faster solutions to face the prevailing health conditions in older adults.

This kit represents an innovative solution, designed to optimize medical care and constitutes an important and valuable result of Cuban science and innovation to a specific problem.

In the first case, there is a population that has a severe intellectual deficit, and in the second, people who do not have an autonomous life interact. Now, with the kit, many of the diseases that these patients have are monitored.

This initiative, he stressed, is part of the implementation of the policy for attention to demographic dynamics, and responds to the matrix of demands to provide better service to the elderly population at the first level of care.
