The Holguin Brewers debuted with a double victory this Monday at the Victoria de Girón stadium in the National Press Softball Championship being played in Matanzas.
In the first game, Holguin players beat by the mercy rule the squad of Isla de la Juventud in five innings (12-1), and to the delight, they beat Matanzas 15-14, which is part of the second round, in both cases with credits for thrower Richard Driggs.
In this double day, student Rafael Pérez stood out, with three home runs, José Ávila hit two and Lázaro Ávila with one – with the bases loaded-, Lázaro Andrés Reyes and Raúl Rodríguez.
On the other hand, the multiple champions of the National Media defeated the Yumurinos 22-3 and the Pirates of La Isla 23-7, both by knockout, with a production of 17 home runs.
Last year’s bronze medalists, Camagüey, beat Ciego de Ávila 19-7 and the Vaqueros de Artemisa and Mayabeque 9-4, teams that saw their revenge against Santiago de Cuba.
For this Tuesday’s, the representatives of the Holguin journalistic union will face their colleagues from Ciego de Avila and the Vaqueros.
The event is developed by the round-robin system, with four teams qualifying for the crossed semi-final (1-4, 2-3). The final will take place next Friday, February 21st.
