Be a positive person

Are you a positive person?

One often hears it said that it is necessary to have positive thinking for things to go well, for our plans to come to fruition and to achieve our dreams and goals. Most humans consider that positive people better overcome the obstacles we encounter on the path of life, that being positive is a fundamental element to succeed. But… What does it mean to be a positive person?

Maintaining a positive attitude and trusting in our possibilities of successfully facing any situation or challenge is essential to maintaining enthusiasm in everything we undertake. An important difference between a happy person and another who feels sorry for not being happy is their way of judging reality and the world around them. Faced with similar situations, living through comparable moments, there are those who draw positive conclusions and there are those who fall into discouragement.

Blaming some situations and others or on fate is usually a quite comfortable option, but above all a good excuse for not working conscientiously in an attempt to improve the personal, economic, professional, family or sentimental situation.

It is also healthy to be clear, as a positive person, that the future does not depend exclusively on our good or bad luck, but on a series of mental laws and development mechanisms that can help us direct our existence towards love, success and well-being. The fundamental key is to adopt a positive attitude with ourselves and with those around us, since only through self-acceptance and self-confidence can we enjoy the inner well-being that allows us to relate appropriately with others and make our environment more pleasant.

The quality of your thoughts largely influences the quality of life, and undoubtedly a positive attitude towards the day can help you enjoy life more and achieve the desired success. The usual way in which you face the constant challenges of your existence does not respond to improvised behavior, but is a function of the mental schemes that you have inherited and the experiences that you accumulate over the years based on the situations experienced.

Every human being has a kind of “windows” in their memory through which they access specific memories of their past. Thus, the windows of memory that are associated with bad memories can lead you to judge any current situation negatively, while the windows associated with good memories will provide you with a positive attitude. Regardless of the real circumstance they face, sometimes people do not choose the most appropriate memory window and, consequently, they are not able to see things as they are, objectively and without allowing unpleasant emotions such as sadness, anxiety or anger to cloud our vision of the events we experience.

Looking at the future with optimism and setting goals about what you want to achieve is essential to start working actively to make your dreams come true. It is clear that you cannot start working to create that ideal future if you do not know exactly what you want. That is why it is vital that you define objectives and try to make them as specific as possible. Deciding exactly what you would like to do in the future is not as simple as it seems. The first thing is to take the time necessary to think about the direction you would like your life to take. If you have a desire, a dream, an ambition and you do nothing to realize it, you will reach the end of your life saying: “if I had done this or that…”.

Optimistic people live 15 percent longer than pessimists

A study from the T.H. School of Public Health Chan of Harvard, the Boston University School of Medicine and the National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder of the Boston Health System, United States, found that optimistic people live 15 percent longer in years than pessimists. This personality trait helps achieve exceptional longevity. The study was carried out among more than 60 thousand people and showed that optimistic people manage to live even more than 85 years due to three main factors:

1) they are more perseverant and motivated

2) they can regulate emotions more

3) they have healthier habits

After these comments I return to the initial question: What does it mean to be a positive person?

Being positive means having good intentions and being willing to learn, it means that you are no small thing, that you have a completely alive, awake and active attitude towards life and the world; It means that you are capable of loving and doing everything necessary to live fully and to take charge of yourself, on all levels and aspects.

Being positive means that you can become aware of the invisible power of thoughts, that you can realize the value of the people around you, and that you can treat others well, whatever they think and do what they do.

Being positive means that you always try to communicate in a healthy way, without causing harm to others so as not to hurt or injure; that you have renounced the negative minutiae and that you have decided not to take them into account; that you can do what suits you, that you can serve humanity with all your love and with all your sincerity.

Being positive means that you no longer restrict anyone’s freedom, that you no longer condition anyone, and that you are happy that others are free; that you are aware that you are a source of wealth and that you live promoting abundance, prosperity and healthy and sincere joy.

Being positive means that you live producing, creating, achieving and that you do not allow anything to fill you with bitterness, negativity or frustration; It means that you have learned to sleep well and that you systematically practice good thinking, that you do breathing and relaxation exercises, because when you do so you connect with your source, that you live every day in the here and now, that you do not get carried away by the rush or live in “alert mode” because this releases the cortisol known as the stress hormone and which does so much damage to our body. It also means that you find spaces and moments for contemplation and introspection.

In short, being positive means that you are capable of enjoying good things and that you strive to constantly improve.
