The Agricultural Extension, Research and Training Unit (Ueica for its Spanish acronym), a scientific center in Holguin province, fosters links with educational institutions as part of the strategy to encourage the development of science among the new generations.
This scientific center, located in the town of Velasco in the municipality of Gibara, has among its objectives the increase of activities in nearby schools and polytechnic institutes, dedicated to the fulfillment of this purpose during the current school year.
Among the actions are the creation of vocation clubs, celebrations of environmental anniversaries and facilities for pre-professional internships, focused on promoting innovation and improving the quality of the educational teaching process, said Robert Manuel Leyva MartÃnez, a specialist of this institution, to ACN.
He pointed out that in the projects of high quality seed production, plant reproduction and soil demonstration polygons, university students and technical education are included to allow the growth of the skills acquired in the academy.
Researchers and specialists are also incorporated into the schools to contribute to the increase of teaching coverage and the comprehension formation of students.
For more than 30 years, the Ueica has promoted food sovereignty projects, the cultivation of plants resilient to climate change, among other priorities linked to government programs in Cuba.
In addition, the entity is associated with international projects related to the implementation of technological packages and inputs to increase yields and improve soil conditions.
