The performance of the University of Holguin (UHo) in projects that promote science and innovation for local development was highlighted in a checkup by a national visit aimed at assessing the fulfillment of the strategic objectives of the institution by year 2024.
At Oscar Lucero Moya university headquarters, the working commission of the Ministry of Higher Education (MES), together with professors and department heads of the university, also met and evaluated the progress of the institution in the preparations for the new academic calendar.
Reynaldo Velázquez Zaldívar, deputy minister of the MES, praised the positive impact on production, exports, import substitution and linkages of the center through its participation in 41 territorial programs that promote social and economic transformation from the communities.
A key role has been played by the Municipal University Centers (CUM), which advise government agencies, meet training needs, strengthen ties with entities and collaborate in socioeconomic activities in each locality, an indicator for which the UHo is an example at the national level, he said.
Velázquez Zaldívar highlighted the sustainability of human resources and professional development, with emphasis on PhD training, an issue of relevance in the improvement of the educational process in general and the accreditation of the University in particular, for which it is necessary to stimulate the faculty and other workers.
Other points reviewed were the progress in the digital transformation plan and the political-ideological work, as well as the need to increase the export of services aimed at increasing income and establishing international agreements to broaden the vision and knowledge of students.
With respect to the assurance of the course, PhD. Aniuska Ortiz Pérez, rector of the UHo, added that they have the minimum indispensable conditions for the incorporation to the classrooms of the more than 11,700 students enrolled in the 42 existing degrees, of which 36 are daytime courses, an equal number by meeting courses, five distance courses and 12 short cycle courses.
The University of Holguin, which has four campuses, nine faculties, 10 CUMs and two national branches, will open its doors on September 16 for new students and on October 7 for continuing students.
