Kilómetro Cero” will be on the FICGibara billboard

The play Kilómetro Cero, by Argos Teatro group, based on the text “Pingueros en La Habana” (2014) by historian and researcher Julio César González Pagés, will be presented at the 18th edition of the Gibara International Film Festival (FICGibara), to be held in that town in the province of Holguín from August 6 to 10.

González Pagés told the Cuban News Agency that the main theme of the play is male prostitution and, precisely, the experiences of young people from the eastern part of the country are high.

He stressed that the play could be the subject of controversy in FICGibara, as it happened when it premiered in the capital on October 8, 2022, under the script and direction of actress and playwright Liliana Lam, for bringing to light micromachisms that still exist in the island.

The researcher highlighted that he will participate in a second part of the festival with the screening of the documentary “Zschokke” (2023), a co-production between Switzerland and Germany, by filmmakers Matthias and Adrian Zschokk.

He said material will be presented next August 9 and tells the story of the great Swiss-German writer and philosopher Heinrich Zschokke (1771-1848), who had a relationship in the 19th century with the family of Eusebio Leal Spengler, the eternal historian of the city of Havana,

About FICGibara, Gonzalez Pagés stressed that it represents a challenge for any creator to leave the framework of the Cuban capital, where most of these meetings take place.

The first edition of this event, an initiative of renowned film director Humberto Solás, was held for the first time in April 2003 to encourage the execution of a legitimate, mobilizing, humble, aesthetic and ethical cinema.
