The municipality of Moa, in recognition of its socio-economic results and advances in local development, hosted the provincial activities in Holguin for the 71st anniversary of the assault to the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes barracks.
The event, on the occasion of the July 26th anniversary, was presided over by Joel Queipo Ruiz, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and first secretary of the PCC Provincial Committee in Holguin; Manuel Hernandez Aguilera, Governor of the province, and political and government authorities of this mining territory.
Alexis Mejías Céspedes, top leader of the PCC in Moa, highlighted that the determination and hard work of the inhabitants of this land of nickel were key to achieve the venue of the celebrations. In addition, he highlighted the advances and achievements of the territory that support the decision to grant it such an important honor.
Mejías pointed out that Moa has experienced significant growth in recent years, both in economic and social terms. He highlighted the modernization of infrastructure and services, as well as the improvement of the quality of life of its inhabitants.

In particular, he praised the program of transformation of the neighborhoods through which they have developed a process of revival of educational centers, health, trade, the expansion of capacities in circles and children’s homes, the improvement of roads, the elimination of dirt floors and the recovery of water distribution systems, among many other actions of social benefit.
He also stressed the importance of preserving the culture and traditions of the people and said that the celebration of this anniversary is an opportunity to show the world the richness and diversity of the region.
Moa, as part of the implementation of the municipal development strategy, achieved a surplus of 104 million pesos and more than 30 million pesos above the plan in retail circulation.
During the celebration of the Provincial Act for July 26th, the maximum political leader in Holguin, Joel Queipo Ruiz, recalled the importance of the heroic assault to the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Barracks as a fundamental episode in the history of Cuba, which marked the beginning of the revolutionary struggle led by Fidel Castro.
During the ceremony, outstanding provincial and municipal organizations were recognized and commitments were made to host the central national event for this anniversary in 2025.
