The radio station CMKV La Voz del Níquel celebrated this June 24 the 45th anniversary of its foundation, an occasion in which its fundamental role in the broadcasting of entertainment programs and information services in representation of the interests of the community in Moa and in defense of the national identity was recognized.
Ricardo Ronquillo Bello, President of the Union of Journalists of Cuba, on his Facebook portal sent a message of congratulations to the staff of this station of the Cuban Radio Broadcasting System in which he highlighted its dedication and “programming in special harmony with its environment and its people”.
Event, Anniversary of La Voz del Níquel

In the ceremony for such significant date for the radio in the province of Holguin were recognized the workers with uninterrupted work from five to 25 years in this radio station, founded in 1979 and known as La Portadora del Mensaje (The Message Carrier).
Likewise, the National Union of Culture Workers awarded the Raúl Gómez García distinction to 13 workers with more than 20 and 25 years of work in the sector.
The “El Micrófono de Níquel” award was also presented to sound operator Anisleydis López Cuenca and journalist Nelson Ricardo Sierra, who ratified that “La Voz del Níquel has been more than a radio station; it has been a family. A space where every day is a new opportunity to learn and share. I raise my microphone today not only as a symbol of recognition, but also as a renewed commitment with the truth and the community”.

This award was also conferred to the Council of the Municipal Administration for its permanent support to the communicational work of this media with 18 hours a day on the air and directed by Camilo Velazco Petittón, who for his recognized journalistic work was awarded the “Pablo Velazco Mir” Critical Journalism Award.
The ceremony also included the presentation of a diploma recognizing Leonor Legrá Lobaina as the only active founder of the radio station and the certificate of her mention in the 26th of July National Journalism Contest; while four pioneers of the Amistad Cuba Holanda boarding school received awards for their participation in the children’s programs Caritide de sueño and the pioneer news program Sintonía OPJM.

The workers of La Voz del Níquel were accompanied by Joel Queipo Ruiz, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the PCC in Holguín; Manuel Francisco Hernández Aguilera, governor of the Province; and other political and governmental authorities of the municipality of Moa.

La Voz del Níquel, a reference in the training of radio broadcasters and journalists, “is still the school of always and the home of many”, said Carlos Rafael Diéguez, one of its founders and director in the 1990s, (…) “it is and will be a forge of men and women to make the radio that the people of Cuba need and to multiply every day against the media wars, its great chimneys of thoughts”.
