WFP collaborates with nutrition of vulnerable sectors in Holguín

The World Food Program (WFP), which belongs to the United Nations, collaborates in Holguin with healthy and varied nutrition among the vulnerable sectors, through the donation of food modules that benefit more than 40 thousand people.

Orlando Chaveco Pérez, WFP monitor in the province, informed that they are currently delivering a donation that includes two kilograms of rice, one kilogram of grains and one liter of vegetable oil to people in situations of economic vulnerability, as well as to pregnant women.

These products, distributed free of charge, are destined to improve the nutrition of about 43 thousand people in all the municipalities of Holguin Holguín, who will be able to obtain them in their warehouses just by presenting their supply booklet, he said.

Chaveco Pérez pointed out that together with the Ministries of Domestic Trade, Labor and Social Security and the Provincial Food Wholesale Company, three deliveries of these supplies will be made every two months until February, of which the second round will begin soon.

Infants are one of the population groups prioritized by the program, which will conclude next January, for the distribution of the so-called Chispitas Nutricionales, micronutrients in powder form for children between six months and two years of age, a figure that exceeds 12,000 throughout the province, he added.

The WFP has been supporting the Cuban people and government for six decades in actions that promote food and nutritional security, which, in Holguín, is evident in entities such as the canteens of the Family Attention Systems, internal and semi-boarding schools, grandparents’ homes and homes for the elderly.
